My sister is planning my baby shower for Chef's and my family. She called me at about 14weeks preggers and asked for a list of people and where I was registered. Say what? She said because people have to travel hundreds of miles we need to let them know a little sooner so that they can make travel arrangements. I get that, but I hadn't even been thinking of things like that just yet. She charged me with the task of starting some registries so she would at least have something to put on the invitations. I thought, "Hey, no problem, I'll get online and knock this out in 30 minutes." Two and a half hours later I had six things in my registry and I was beyond frustrated. Now I know why people start their registry at 8 weeks. The issue that I am having with the registry is that I believe that I am too practical. I don't like all of the offensively bright colors used on baby stuff. Even though we are finding out the sex of the baby, I still want gender neutral EVERYTHING so that we can use it again for other children in the future. It just seems very practical for me not to have to buy the same thing again in the opposite color. WTF? People are insane. I've also learned that crib bedding is beyond expensive. Why on earth will I pay $200+ for something that covers one fourth of a real bed? Seriously. I don't sleep on $200 sheets and neither will this baby. Talk about luxury out of the womb. Thank God for amazon.com. This is starting to turn into a rant so I will change the subject and talk about what I know I want for our baby.
1. Convertible Crib - I'm willing to spend a pretty penny here because it grows with your child and eliminates having to buy a toddler bed 2 years after you shell out a ton of money for a baby crib.
2. Cloth Diapers - I know it's 2012 but cloth diapers have changed. I swear if it wasn't easy or practical, I would not be doing it. We're looking at the gDiaper system as the most convenient option for us. Between Chef's chef coats and my workout clothes we wash clothes every other day as it is. So, throwing in a load of diapers won't break the system. Over the long run, cloth diapers are cheaper than disposables and they won't give the baby all of the secondary issues from wearing an artificial fragrance soaked in pee on their butts. No diaper rash over here. These little things are so cute. At almost $30 for two diapers or $80 for a 6 pack, I registered for them in hopes that people will understand that it's an investment upfront. And if no one will buy them for us, we'll get them ourselves. HAHA. I also have a friend who cloth diapered her son and have some leftover fuzzibunz with the organic inserts that she's willing to give me to supplement my gDiapers.
3. Breast pump - Breast is best. The end. I am not spending over $300 on a Medela pump though. Try again. I'm getting the Avent double electric. The reviews are phenomenal.
